Nicole Clay is the co-founder and CMO of Hue, an AI-powered video platform that helps beauty shoppers find the right products for their complexion shares her hobbies and time-management tips. Here, she shares her passions and time-management tips.

I’m currently feeling… inspired and energetic. This is an exciting time for the beauty and tech industry. Brands are innovating rapidly to keep up with shifts in customer behavior, such as shopping via video and
with tech advancements like AI and AR. I’m excited to see what’s in-store for Q4.

My take on work/life balance is… that it’s crucial. Over the years, I have realized that the key to balance is setting boundaries. This balance is especially needed during hectic travel weeks, so I give myself permission to have slower days during these periods. I’ve felt burned out in the past so I keep an eye out for the early warning signs and am transparent with my co-founders when I need some R&R.

The items in my toolbox that make me feel prepared are… my to-do lists and ‘heads down’ time blocks on my calendar.

Outside of work, I’m passionate about… tennis and ceramics. These two hobbies keep me energized and refreshed, even during the most hectic work weeks.

My best advice for those starting their entrepreneurial journey is… to fall in love with the customer problem, not the solution. Be open to listening to the customer and to pivoting your company in directions you may not have [considered] before

Also, it is essential to build a support network to help manage the ups and downs of being a founder. This could include your co-founders, founder friends, advisers, therapist, partners, family, or friends.

Lastly, make sure to lean on experts in your industry because you will not know everything. The cheat code is to hire people who are smarter than you.

My best time-management tip is… work in two-week sprints and move quickly from strategy to action as you test tactics.
