Crafting retailer Michaels has appointed David Boone as its new CEO and board member, effective this month.
Before joining Michaels, Boone served as the interim CEO of e-commerce company Essendant. He also held the position of CEO at Staples Canada, where he helped scale the company’s services and B2B business.
Prior to his time at Staples, Boone held leadership roles at TD Bank USA and various executive positions throughout his 16 years at Canadian retailer Loblaw.
Andrew Jhawar, chairman of the board of directors, described Boone as a “proven business leader” with a strategic vision, a strong customer focus, and extensive retail experience.
“As we enter an exciting period of opportunity for Michaels, we are pleased to welcome David to the company,” he stated.
Commenting on his appointment, Boone expressed his enthusiasm for joining one of the “leading creative destinations” across North America.
“I am excited about the tremendous opportunity to continue building on our momentum, driving long-term growth, and delivering a best-in-class customer experience,” he remarked.
Established in 1973, Michaels is known for its range of arts and crafts products, including scrapbooking, beading, knitting, rubber stamping, and home decor items.
